Alford 25 25.03.2018
Start Sheet 25mile 25.03.2018

Start sheet and details are attached for the 25 this weekend. If you’re not riding, would you be able to contact Dave Allen or John Burton to offer your assistance so we can get the day planned out.

Thank you.

Well done to everyone that completed the 30 and 50 mile reliability ride yesterday. Perfect conditions made it a highly enjoyable ride.

The BAR competition has been updated – see results page on website.

Don’t forget – interclub on Sunday.  A change to the way the points are gained by each club means everyone (unless marshalling, organising) should ride it. First man off at 10.00 – get there for about 9.15.

Please make sure you treat the Village Hall with respect. It is a brand new facility and Mareham le Fen are very proud of it. In particular, they have asked us to take care with their new floor and remove your shoes if you think they may mark/damage it. I don’t think plastic cleats will to be honest, but you might need to take them off if you’re on SPD’s………or Stilettoes !!!!!

Please see the 2018 Fixtures page for the CTT published events for next season

A Message from the Lake District!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Alford Wheelers Cycling Club,
I am writing from Derwentwater Independent Hostel (Barrow House), where I work with several other like-minded people who love cycling, running, climbing, wild swimming and various other outdoor activities. We really enjoy welcoming fellow outdoor enthusiasts to Derwentwater, and I thought you might be interested in organising a trip away for your club.
In the past year our guests have included City of Lancaster Triathlon Club and One Life Racing (a wide mix of ages and abilities), Cumbernauld Athletics Club (70 of their young members, who all took part in Keswick Parkrun!), and many people on the C2C Cycle Route. We certainly have lots of experience of providing healthy home made food for hearty appetites!
Even a short stay seems to help people get to know each other and feel rejuvenated, and there are lots of events in and around Keswick if you want a particular focus. For instance, the annual Fred Whitton and Jennings Rivers Rides go past our door in October, and the closest time trial course to the hostel is L1010 (10 miles, flat). So please get in touch if you have any questions: we really enjoy sharing our local knowledge and helping groups organise a visit.
In the meantime, I have attached a brief information poster, and you can find lots more information about the hostel on our website
We also have a fund for subsidising youth groups, so if you want to organise a residential specifically for juniors, please let us know.Best wishes,Katy Moore (DIH Education Officer and keen Keswick AC member!)

P.S The C2C Cycle Route is only two miles from the hostel. There are excellent off-road trails in Whinlatter Forest, 7 miles from the hostel, and the Monster Miles event takes place every October, starting from Keswick. There is a new BMX/mountain bike track in Fitz Park in Keswick, with berm corners, step-ups, rollers, doubles, triples, and more challenging jumps.

PLEASE NOTE: FROM NOW ON, NO PARKING OR TOILETS AT BILSBY HOUSE, as it has been sold and is now a private house. PARK IN TOWN AND RIDE OUT TO BILSBY. CYCLING TIME TRIALS have issued a strong recommendation that all riders should have a rear light attached and working when riding Time Trials.  Our Club specified that this should happen in all our Club Events, but we still have riders that are ignoring this advice. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE COMPLYING WITH THIS RECOMMENDATION. It can be flashing or constant and must be able to be seen clearly during daylight hours.
